IABC Accreditation

Accreditation — A Critical Step in Your Career Journey

Did you know... Accreditation is an IABC professional development program offering communicators a way of demonstrating — to employers, fellow communicators and themselves — their ability to successfully manage and perform those tasks essential to effective organizational communication. Candidates meeting all requirements of the program earn the designation Accredited Business Communicator (ABC).

In a survey of IABC accredited members:

57% said both their supervisors and colleagues recognize the value of the ABC designation

23% attributed a salary increase to their ABC

27% credit their ABC with getting them a job offer over another candidate who was not accredited

29% undertook the accreditation process to demonstrate their knowledge and competence to their peers

23% said pursuing accreditation was strictly a personal decision they made for themselves to test their abilities

Accreditation Program Classes

The ABCs of Accreditation

Are you interested in becoming an Accredited Business Communicator but don’t know how to get started or what’s involved? For the second consecutive year, IABC Minnesota is hosting a series of special monthly classes designed to take you through the process – from preparing your application to submitting your portfolio and taking the exam. Guest speakers will give you a better understanding of crisis communications and the ethical issues surrounding business communication, including the IABC Code of Ethics. Participating in these classes does not guarantee accreditation, but you will receive practical assistance to help you succeed.

October 2006 is IABC Accreditation Month. If you sign up for the class and apply for accreditation in October with your classmates, you will be entered in a drawing to win several prizes. The prizes include: a one-year IABC membership; one registration for the 2007 IABC International Conference in New Orleans, LA; one registration for a December 2006 accreditation portfolio preparation teleseminar; or a private coaching session with an Accreditation Council member.
